Tyler Soderstrom took an unfortunate 0-for-5 in his sixth straight RBI-less game Thursday against the Cardinals.

Tyler Soderstrom went 0-for-5 with no RBIs in his sixth consecutive RBI-less game, despite hitting several hard-hit balls that fell short of being hits.

Soderstrom had a 108-mph GIDP in the first, which wound up being the second hardest-hit ball in the game. In the third, he hit a 344-foot fly to right that would have been a homer in 10 ballparks, including Sutter Health, if Jordan Walker hadn't casually grabbed before it could get over the ballpark's low wall. In the sixth, Soderstrom barreled up a ball to left-center that projected at 396 feet, making it a homer in 13 ballparks. In this one, though, it was knocked down by the wind and was an easy play for Victor Scott II. Later came a 105-mph groundout for his fourth hard-hit ball of the day. Soderstrom is down to .195 after this, but the hits will come.

Jacob Lopez yielded three runs -- two earned -- in five-plus innings Thursday against the Cardinals.

Jacob Lopez pitched poorly against the Cardinals, allowing three runs in five-plus innings with a 5.80 ERA and concerning strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Lopez have up homers to Victor Scott II in the fifth and Jordan Walker in the sixth before departing. He walked three and struck out just two, with only four of the 42 swings against him producing whiffs. His ERA sits at 5.80, and even worse is his 30/27 K/BB in 40 1/3 innings. The A's probably aren't going to turn to Gage Jump just yet, but it'd seem to be time to try someone else in Lopez's spot.

Performance

Riley O'Brien fanned two in a hitless ninth for his 13th save Thursday against the A's.

Riley O'Brien earned his 13th save by pitching a hitless ninth inning with two strikeouts against the A's.

The Cardinals had to get O'Brien ready in a hurry after scoring twice in the top of the ninth to take a one-run lead. O'Brien responded very well, though he did hit a batter in the 16-pitch inning. He has three hit batters but just two walks in 21 innings this season.

Performance

Michael McGreevy pitched six innings of one-run ball Thursday in a no-decision against the A's.

Michael McGreevy pitched six innings of one-run ball in a no-decision against the A's, showcasing strong performance with a 2.10 ERA despite allowing hard contact.

McGreevy gave up 11 hard-hit balls today, but only three turned into hits. Nick Kurtz's homer was one of them, but flies of 396, 391 and 383 feet all stayed in the park and turned into outs. That's the kind of good fortune that has allowed McGreevy to post a 2.10 ERA through nine starts with only an average groundball rate and a 19 percent strikeout rate. His BABIP is an incredible .203. He still doesn't figure to provide mixed-league value in the long run, but he's a fair play against the Pirates next week.

Performance

Jordan Walker homered in the sixth and delivered a go-ahead double in the ninth as the Cardinals edged the A's 5-4 on Thursday.

Jordan Walker homered and delivered a go-ahead double in the ninth to lead the Cardinals to a 5-4 victory over the A's.

Walker's double was a soft fly down the right field line that Colby Thomas has no chance of catching up to. Before that, Ivan Herrera singled to left to tie the game. Although the double didn't count, Walker still had three hard-hit balls today. He cooled in the second half of April after his big start, but he's been flirting with a .400 xwOBA since the beginning of May. It definitely doesn't look like he'll be returning to 2024/25 form any time soon.

Yelich was just activated from the injured list on Tuesday after missing a month's worth of action due to a groin strain. He then experienced tightness in his back during his return to action and has found himself on the bench for the next two contests. Brice Matthews finished 0-for-4 in the loss to the Mariners on Thursday.

Brice Matthews is struggling at the plate with a .196 average and only 2 hits in his last 23 at-bats over six games, potentially facing a demotion to Triple-A.

Matthews singled twice last night, but those are his only hits over 23 at-bats in his last six games. He also hasn't drawn a walk since May 4, leaving him at .196/.252/.373 for the season. With Jake Meyers on a rehab assignment, Matthews could be looking at a return to Triple-A next week.

Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-5 with a home run and walk against the Mariners, continuing his strong season with a 1.071 OPS and 14 homers.

Alvarez's blast off Luis Castillo was his 14th of the year. He's second in the majors with a 1.071 OPS, tied for fifth in homers and eighth in both average (.321) and RBI (30).

Brendan Donovan went 3-for-5 with a triple and a double against the Astros in Thursday's victory.

Brendan Donovan went 3-for-5 with a triple and double against the Astros, coming close to completing a cycle.

Donovan had two at-bats to get the homer he needed for a cycle, but he produced a groundout and a 231-foot flyout. The triple came in his second at-bat and was his first since 2024. He's batting .278/.396/.468 with three homers in his 96 plate appearances this season.

Performance

Mike Burrows was tagged for seven runs in 5 2/3 innings by the Mariners on Thursday.

Mike Burrows gave up seven runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Mariners, falling to 2-5 with a 5.72 ERA and facing potential demotion.

Burrows allowed eight hits, walked three and struck out four while giving up two homers for the third time this season. He'd shown improvement of late, amassing a 2.50 ERA in his previous three starts against the Yankees, Red Sox and Reds, but this leaves him 2-5 with a 5.72 ERA overall. With the Astros stretching out Kai-Wei Teng, Burrows might be a candidate for demotion if he has another outing like this next week against the Twins.

Performance

Luis Castillo notched his first win of the year after allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings versus the Astros.

Luis Castillo earned his first win of the season after pitching 5 2/3 innings and allowing three runs against the Astros.

With his velocity up about one mph from his season average, Castillo limited the damage to a Yordan Alvarez solo homer through five, but he gave up a two-run double to Braden Shewmake before exiting in the sixth. Castillo moved to 1-4 with a 6.34 ERA in nine starts. He's supposed to piggyback with Bryce Miller next time through, but we don't yet know what form that will take. That outing against the White Sox is scheduled for Tuesday.

Performance

Luke Raley went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer in the Mariners' 8-3 defeat of the Astros on Thursday.

Luke Raley went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer in the Mariners' 8-3 victory over the Astros, boosting his hard-hit rate to 57.1 percent, among the best in MLB.

Raley also had 105- and 98-mph lineouts to go along with his 102-mph homer and 108-mph groundball single today. That ups his hard-hit rate to 57.1 percent. As a platoon guy, he doesn't have enough plate appearances to qualify for leaderboards, but only six hitters have better hard-hit rates this season (Munetaka Murakami, James Wood, Oneil Cruz, Nick Kurtz, Ben Rice and Michael Harris II).

Fernando Tatis Jr. went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts versus the Brewers on Thursday.

Fernando Tatis Jr. went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts against the Brewers, continuing a recent slump with a .606 OPS over his last 11 games.

Tatis is 7-for-41 with one extra-base hit in his last 11 games, dropping his OPS from .665 to .606. The bat speed is there and he's still hitting the ball hard, but until he figures out how to pull the ball in the air on occasion, he's just not going to be very productive. In 180 plate appearances this season, Tatis has hit 31 balls with over a 20-degree launch angle. Only one of those was pulled.

Performance

Garrett Mitchell doubled twice and stole a base against the Padres on Thursday.

Garrett Mitchell went 2-for-2 with doubles and a stolen base against the Padres, showcasing strong performance despite playing time concerns with Christian Yelich's return.

According to Statcast, this would have been a two-homer game in Houston or Philadelphia. In Milwaukee, though, it was two two-baggers and, unfortunately, no runs scored or batted in. Mitchell's playing time could be in question with Christian Yelich back, but since Yelich has sat out the last two games, it hasn't been an issue yet. That Mitchell is the Brewers' best center fielder helps his case for at-bats over Jake Bauers and Andrew Vaughn.

Performance

Griffin Canning got just five outs and surrendered six runs in his start against the Brewers on Thursday.

Griffin Canning had a poor outing against the Brewers, allowing six runs on four hits and four walks in just five outs before being pulled from the game.

Canning walked four in a row with one out in what ended up being a three-run first inning. Control wasn't his issue in the second, but he gave up four hits and three runs before being replaced by Ron Maranaccio with two outs. After a successful debut against the White Sox on May 3, Canning has allowed 12 runs over six innings his last two times out. He was pretty unlucky in his previous start against the Cardinals, but he definitely made his own luck today. If he's not better next week against the Dodgers, the Padres might have to try something different.

Performance

Kyle Harrison struck out seven over five scoreless innings in a win over the Padres on Thursday.

Kyle Harrison struck out seven over five scoreless innings in a win over the Padres, improving to 4-1 with a 2.09 ERA.

Harrison walked none, but since he also didn't manage any quick innings while giving up five hits, it took him 99 pitches to get his 15 outs. He allowed just two hard-hit balls. Harrison is now 4-1 with a 2.09 ERA. Between his tendency to run up his pitch count and the Brewers' fondness for quick hooks, wins might yet be a problem going forward, even if they haven't been so far. He'll face the Cubs next.

Performance

Luis Rengifo had two hits and three RBI in the Brewers' 7-1 takedown of the Padres on Thursday.

Luis Rengifo went 2-for-4 with three RBIs as the Brewers defeated the Padres 7-1, improving his batting average to .220 with eight hits in his last three games.

Rengifo has eight hits in his last three games, pushing his average from .179 to .220. He's in sort of a rotation with David Hamilton and Joey Ortiz for two lineup spots each day, but he's still slightly outpacing them of late. He's in there every time the Brewers face a lefty, and he's started six of the last eight times they've faced righties. It was Ortiz who sat today, with Hamilton playing short.

Leo Jimenez went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the Marlins' designated hitter on Thursday.

Leo Jimenez went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the Marlins' designated hitter, continuing struggles in an underutilized DH role.

The right-handed-hitting Jimenez was limited to playing against lefties previously, but since Graham Pauley got sent down, he's started three of the Marlins' five games against righties. He did collect three hits last night, which was probably why he was back in there today, but the DH spot really isn't being optimized while being filled by a utilityman with a career .211/.309/.322 line in 283 major league plate appearances. The Marlins will probably keep mixing and matching until Griffin Conine comes off the IL or Agustin Ramirez returns from exile.

Performance

James Outman went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a walk Thursday against the Marlins.

James Outman went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a walk against the Marlins, improving his OBP and breaking a 33 at-bat RBI drought.

For once not living up to his name, Outman raised his OBP from .171 to .231 today. He had been without an RBI in 33 at-bats this season coming into the game. With Matt Wallner getting sent down, Outman should be in line for more at-bats against right-handers. He probably wouldn't have made the team out of spring training if he hadn't been out of options, and the Twins need to give him some sort of look in order to decide whether he's worth keeping around.

Performance

Austin Martin went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI, a walk and a steal as the Twins' leadoff man Thursday against the Marlins.

Austin Martin went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, a walk and a steal as the Twins' leadoff man, and is positioned to play regularly following Matt Wallner's demotion.

Martin will be the biggest beneficiary of Matt Wallner's demotion, and he should have a chance to play nearly every day until the Twins decide Emmanuel Rodriguez or Walker Jenkins is ready (both are actually on the Triple-A IL at the moment) or wants to give Wallner another chance. Martin's exit velocity numbers remain weak, but he's batting .333 anyway, and his 18/22 K/BB in 130 plate appearances is exceptional. As a decent source of batting average, steals and, potentially, runs scored, he's an option in deeper mixed leagues.

Making his first MLB start in 23 months, Braxton Garrett walked five and gave up five runs in 1 1/3 innings Thursday against the Twins.

Braxton Garrett made his first MLB start in 23 months after Tommy John surgery, walking five and allowing five runs in 1 1/3 innings against the Twins.

Maybe some nerves here. Garrett actually walked one more batter today than he did in his seven starts and 37 innings before going down in 2024 and requiring Tommy John surgery. He was also unusually wild in Triple-A, walking 15 in 31 1/3 innings prior to his recall today. Still, he'll get better and probably prove to be a solid enough starter for the Marlins. He'll face the Braves next time out.

Performance

Zebby Matthews blanked the Marlins for seven innings, allowing just four hits, in his 2026 debut as the Twins prevailed 9-1 on Thursday.

Zebby Matthews delivered an impressive 2026 debut for the Twins, shutting out the Marlins over seven innings with four hits allowed in a 9-1 victory.

Matthews' 2026 debut couldn't have gone much better, as he struck out five and walked one in a breezy 83-pitch outing. That his velocity is still down about 1.5 mph from last year makes him quite a bit less intriguing as a fantasy option. Still, his new, intentionally slower curveball worked well today, generating a 46 percent CSW and one very weak groundout the 13 times he threw it. He should stick around and face the Astros next week.

McLean did allow eight hard-hit balls -- six off his main fastballs -- and his velocity was down a bit. It speaks well of him and his arsenal that he was able to go seven and strike out seven despite that. He'll continue to be a must-start as he takes on the Nationals next week.

Performance

Keider Montero gave up four earned runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Mets on Thursday.

Keider Montero allowed four earned runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Mets and was pulled in the fifth inning, with his team ultimately losing the game.

Montero was pulled with a man on and two out in the fifth, so he had a front row seat as Tyler Holton allowed a go-ahead single to Juan Soto and a two-run bomb to Mark Vientos to put him on the hook for a loss. Montero's just not missing enough bats -- he got only one whiff on 31 swings from the Mets today. He'll be lined up with another streamable-in-theory start against the Guardians next week, but nothing we've seen has us itching to start him in shallow leagues.

Performance

Juan Soto went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an RBI single in New York's win over the Tigers on Thursday.

Juan Soto went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an RBI single in New York's win over the Tigers, with his ankle expected to be fine.

Sounds like his ankle's going to be okay. It hasn't been the best start for Soto in fantasy leagues between the IL stint, the end of last year's stolen base reign, and a ton of groundball outs. Still, he's hitting .269/.358/.471 with five homers. As long as he stays healthy, fantasy managers should be pleased this summer.

Performance

Gage Workman went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer as the Tigers fell to the Mets on Thursday.

Gage Workman went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and a double as the Tigers lost to the Mets, extending his hot start with four extra-base hits in his first four games.

He added another double in this game, though he was stranded, and now has four extra-base hits in his first four games this year, including two homers. The Tigers batted him fifth today. We don't recommend a shallow-league preemptive pickup, but deep league managers should definitely circle around to make sure nobody left him on the waiver wire with this hot start.

Performance

A.J. Ewing went 2-for-4 with his first career homer as the Mets came back to beat the Tigers 9-4 on Thursday.

A.J. Ewing hit his first career home run and went 2-for-4 as the Mets defeated the Tigers 9-4.

Ewing lined the solo shot into the right field bullpen at Citi Field, and he's off to a .333/.538/.889 start with four walks in his first 13 plate appearances and a stolen base. So that's not bad. We wouldn't bet on Ewing being a major power source for the Mets given his size and minor league track record, but he certainly gave them a jolt as they swept the Tigers. Snap him up if he wasn't already picked up in your league.

Elbow · Season-Ending

Cardinals LHP Packy Naughton will have elbow surgery next week.

Cardinals LHP Packy Naughton will undergo elbow surgery next week after a failed comeback attempt from previous forearm surgery.

It's a tough break for those of us in fantasy leagues where everyone's name must sound like a 1920s street gangster. Naughton had been attempting a comeback after forearm surgery -- obviously that's in some question at this point as the 30-year-old had a 3.86 ERA in three games with Triple-A Memphis.

Performance

Troy Johnston went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double against the Pirates on Thursday.

Troy Johnston went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double against the Pirates and is performing well for the Rockies with a .326 batting average.

It was the only scoring the Rockies could muster against a pair of openers and Carmen Mlodzinski. Johnston managed to misplay a Spencer Horowitz fly ball that he thought would carom off the wall but instead landed on the track after he'd already stopped. So it goes. Johnston still qualifies as a success story for the Rockies, he's up to a .326/.387/.465 seasonal line with two homers.

Performance

Konnor Griffin went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Pittsburgh's win over the Rockies on Thursday.

Konnor Griffin went 2-for-4 with a run and stolen base in Pittsburgh's win, showing improvement at the plate with a .304 average in May.

Griffin's now hitting .304/.365/.500 in 51 plate appearances in May, with one homer and three stolen bases. It's not quite as spicy of a line as we'd hoped just yet, but he's definitely getting adjusted to big-league pitching. He's raised his average from .231 to .254 in the process. Fantasy managers banking on him have to be thrilled that he's quickly adjusting; hopefully the ceiling results can come over the rest of the summer.

Performance

JJ Bleday went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs as the Reds upended the Nationals 15-1.

JJ Bleday went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs as the Reds defeated the Nationals 15-1.

Bleday took Foster Griffin for a three-run blast in the sun deck in the fourth inning, then added a second one off Zac Kent that barely cleared the right-field fence in Great American Ballpark. Bleday's now got six homers in 52 at-bats since taking over a real role in late April. There's nothing that looks completely unsustainable about this -- the expected wOBA is .486. He'll likely slow down a bit because he's not this kind of hitter historically, but fantasy managers should come along for the ride while it lasts

Performance

Chase Burns threw six shutout innings against the Nationals, picking up the win while striking out seven on Thursday.

Chase Burns threw six shutout innings with seven strikeouts against the Nationals, improving his May ERA to 0.69.

Burns' ERA in three May starts is 0.69 and his WHIP is 0.85. He did weirdly only strike out two against the Astros on May 9, but otherwise he's been on absolute cruise control. His slider got eight whiffs on 13 swings today and he allowed just three hard-hit balls. Burns might be Good. He'll look to continue his run of good form against the Phillies next week.

Performance

Foster Griffin allowed nine earned runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings against the Reds on Thursday.

Foster Griffin had a rough outing against the Reds, allowing nine earned runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings, causing his ERA to spike from 2.12 to 3.47.

Griffin still struck out seven, but this was a rough outing as he walked three, hit another batter, and allowed a pair of three-run homers. Four of the five hard-hit balls Griffin allowed were off his cutter. Griffin's ERA spikes from 2.12 to 3.47. He's still pitching well enough to stream against weaker teams, but if you threw him in Great American Ballpark you had to know that was a heat check of sorts. He'll draw a much easier matchup against the Mets next week.

Performance

Matt McLain went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored against the Nationals on Thursday.

Matt McLain went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored against the Nationals, but continues to struggle with a .189 average in May.

McLain badly needed a game like this -- even after it he's hitting just .189/.250/.297 in May. It's his second homer of the month and he hasn't stolen a single base in that timespan. Maybe this can get him going, but he's definitely not playing like someone the Reds are going to be penciling in for the majority of the season if he doesn't get it going.

Performance

Luis Garcia Jr. went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in Thursday's loss to the Reds.

Luis Garcia Jr. went 1-for-2 with two walks in Thursday's loss to the Reds, maintaining solid offensive numbers but with fewer stolen base attempts this season.

He was the only Nats hitter to reach multiple times against Chase Burns and the bullpen. Garcia isn't exactly underperforming at the plate -- .276/.306/.441 in 127 at-bats was well within the range of reasonable expectations -- but his stolen base attempts have declined precipitously and that's made him a harder roster in fantasy leagues this year.

Performance

Carmen Mlodzinski pitched five innings against the Rockies to pick up a win on Thursday, allowing two earned runs.

Carmen Mlodzinski earned a win against the Rockies by pitching five innings and allowing two earned runs despite low strikeout and high walk totals.

The strikeout total was low (two), the walk total was high (three), but the Rockies on the road were able to help Mlodzinski coast after he followed Mason Montgomery and Evan Sisk. The 1.44 seasonal WHIP tells the tale -- Mlodzinski streams are terrifying events, and he needed a pair of double plays to keep the run total this low. He'll get the Cardinals next time out.

Performance

Ryan O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI in Pittsburgh's 7-2 win over the Rockies.

Ryan O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Pittsburgh's 7-2 win over the Rockies, continuing a hot streak with eight hits in five games.

That's eight hits in five games for O'Hearn, who took a Chase Dollander fastball over the plate deep to dead center. The Pirates have gotten what they've paid for so far, as O'Hearn has been a respectable middle-of-the-order hitter and has even managed an empty .295 average against left-handed pitching coming into today's game.

Francisco Lindor remains sidelined with a calf injury and is still weeks away from resuming baseball activities, with an MRI showing signs of healing but a potential two-month absence looming.

Mendoza mentioned that a new MRI on Wednesday showed "signs of healing," but it sounds like Lindor is at least a month a way from returning, if not more given the potential of a rehab assignment. MLB.com's Anthony DiComo believes Lindor "figures to miss closer to two months or more." He's already missed the last two weeks and change, and that timeline would put him close to a July return.

Oblique Strain · Day-to-Day

Cal Raleigh (oblique) is not in the lineup on Thursday against the Astros.

Cal Raleigh is out of the lineup Thursday with ongoing right-side discomfort and may be placed on the injured list.

Raleigh was removed from Wednesday's game with "right-side discomfort," but Mariners manager Dan Wilson said the move was precautionary. However, Raleigh also missed three games with right-side tightness last week, so this is clearly an ongoing issue. There's a chance that the Mariners will place their All-Star on the injured list until this issue subsides fully. Mitch Garver will catch and bat eighth on Thursday.

Back · Day-to-Day

Christian Yelich (back) is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Padres.

Christian Yelich is not in the starting lineup due to back tightness after being recently activated from the injured list, with a possible return to the IL.

Yelich was activated off the injured list on Tuesday after missing a month with a groin strain. Unfortunately, his back felt tight after one game, and he has now missed the last two contests. Given his history of back injuries, his absence today is a bit concerning. William Contreras will be the DH with Gary Sanchez catching, but there is a chance that we will see Yelich head back to the injured list.

Troy Melton (elbow) threw two scoreless innings at Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, allowing two hits and two walks and striking out three.

Troy Melton threw two scoreless innings in a rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo, showing positive progress in his return from an elbow strain.

Melton threw 33 of his 54 pitches for strikes and sat 95.9 mph on his four-seam fastball. That's down a little over one mph from where he was last year, but that's not unexpected when coming back from an elbow strain. Melton was sitting at 96.4 mph in the first inning and then dialed it back from there. He got plenty of whiffs on his splitter and had a 40 percent whiff rate overall. Melton can't be activated from the injured list until the end of May, so he will make at least one more rehab start where he will likely push over 60 pitches. There's a chance he could return after that and become an intriguing arm in fantasy leagues.

Fansided's Robert Murray reported that the Giants have "had zero internal conversations about trading stars Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman, and/or Willy Adames."

The Giants have reportedly had no internal conversations about trading star players Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman, and Willy Adames, countering earlier reports that they were considering moving their biggest contracts.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today had reported earlier in the week that the Giants would love to trade away some of their biggest contracts, including Devers, Chapman, Adames, and Jung Hoo Lee. Murray's report seems to counter that and suggests that the Giants, who are just six games out of a playoff spot, believe there is "plenty of time between now and the deadline for them to climb out of this hole." If the Giants are not able to do that, perhaps "further subtractions" would be on the table, but that doesn't appear to be the case right now.

Oblique Strain · Cleared

Bryce Miller allowed eight hits and two runs with one walk and three strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Wednesday.

Bryce Miller made his season debut after recovering from an oblique strain, pitching 5 1/3 innings with improved velocity against the Astros in a no-decision.

In his long awaited return from an oblique strain, there was plenty to dissect from Miller's season debut. Starting with some positives, it was encouraging to see his velocity jump up nearly three ticks compared to last season and sitting between 97 and 98 mph. It held steady around there for his whole 81-pitch outing too, which was another great sign. Also, he showed off his deep repertoire against a right-handed heavy Astros lineup. However, despite his stuff returning to form, whiffs did not follow. Miller only forced eight swings-and-misses and struggled to put hitters away. His command was solid overall, but wavered with two strikes. Still, this should be considered a huge step in the right direction and he's scheduled to face the White Sox next week.

Randy Arozarena went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and is riding a seven-game hit streak while raising his batting average to .306.

Arozarena is on first with multiple hits in his last three games and a seven-game hit streak. During that time, he's raised his batting average from .265 to .306, which is tied for 15th-highest in the league. On top of all these hits, he's also running wild with four steals in his last nine games as he contributes to our teams in a multitude of ways.

Performance

Lance McCullers allowed seven hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts across 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Lance McCullers delivered a solid start with six strikeouts across 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs in a no-decision against the Mariners.

Coming off a fingernail issue, McCullers worked around constant traffic on the bases to deliver a solid start here. He led with his cutter against a very left-handed heavy Mariners lineup and it forced plenty of weak contact to bail him out of some jams. Ironically, despite all the base runners, the only runs he surrendered came via two solo home runs. The first of which came against J.P. Crawford, the first batter of the game. McCullers threw him three fastballs, none were thrown harder than 90 mph, and he didn't throw one for the rest of his outing after Crawford's tank. That's one heck of an adjustment right there and it worked because the velocity on the rest of his pitches did not dip. Keep an eye on that fastball velocity in his next scheduled start against the Twins.

Performance

Simeon Woods-Richardson allowed seven hits and eight runs - six earned - with four walks and one strikeouts across three-plus innings in a loss to the Marlins on Wednesday.

Simeon Woods-Richardson had another poor outing, allowing eight runs on seven hits with four walks across three-plus innings in a loss to the Marlins.

It's another day that ends in "y" and another awful outing for Woods-Richardson. The Marlins had a run on the board against him before he recorded an out, partially due to an error, and he never settled in. After the Twins tried to stretch him through the fourth inning, he let the first four batters of the inning reach safely, was yanked, and both inherited runners he left came around to score. This latest blowup pushed him to an abhorrent 7.71 ERA on the season with 20 strikeouts and 20 walks through 42 innings. The Twins are likely thinking about anyone in the organization that could possibly take his rotation spot.

Performance

Byron Buxton went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs and a walk on Wednesday against the Marlins.

Byron Buxton went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs and a walk against the Marlins, bringing his season total to 15 home runs and tying him for third-most in the league.

When Buxton is hot, he gets really, really hot. This pair of home runs gave him 15 on the season. Seven of those have come in the 11 games he's played in May. Zoom back a little bit further, and he has 10 over his last 15 games. Stretch it back a little bit further again, and all 15 of Buxton's home runs have come in his last 26 games. That power surge has tied him with Munetaka Murakami for the third-most long balls in the league while Aaron Judge and Kyle Schwarber are the only hitters with more.

Performance

Owen Caissie went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk on Wednesday against the Twins.

Owen Caissie went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk against the Twins, breaking a 28-game home run drought.

After smoking two home runs in his first seven games of the season, Caissie hadn't hit one since before this game. That was 28 games and 88 plate appearances ago for a player whose power is their carrying tool. He finally managed to get off the schneid here though with a 400 foot blast off Simeon Woods-Richardson, but still has a lowly .609 OPS and strikeout rate north of 40% as he tries to maintain his strong-side platoon role in the Marlins' outfield.

Performance

Max Meyer allowed seven hits and four runs with two walks and nine strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a 9-5 win over the Twins on Wednesday.

Max Meyer delivered a strong pitching performance with 9 strikeouts and 22 swings-and-misses in a 5 2/3 inning outing as the team defeated the Twins 9-5.

There was a lot of good and also plenty of weird in this start from Meyer. First with the good, he forced 22 total swings-and-misses. That's only the 16th instance so far this season of a pitcher recording that many whiffs in a single game. The bulk of those came from the combination of his slider and sweeper, which have each been borderline unhittable this season as he's found some more velocity on each. Now for the weird, he didn't get many called strikes and found himself hunting for the whiff a bit too often through the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings after his lineup had built him a big lead. He simply wasn't in the zone enough, especially with his fastball, to give his team any length. Also, he could not figure out Byron Buxton who launched two home runs off him. All in all, this was an encouraging start, just one that felt like it could have yielded better results. Next, he's lined up for a two-start week against the Mets and Braves with both starts coming at home.

Performance

Bryce Eldridge finished 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Bryce Eldridge went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts against the Dodgers, continuing a poor stretch since his callup.

The Giants gave Casey Schmitt the day off to get Eldridge in there tonight, but it obviously didn't work. Eldridge is 2-for-21 with a homer and nine strikeouts while starting six of nine games since his callup. If the A's want to play him again Thursday, it should be at the expense of Willy Adames, who forgot how many outs there were and got doubled off to end the seventh tonight.

Performance

Santiago Espinal hit his first homer since 2024 to get the Dodgers on the board in Wednesday's win over the Giants.

Santiago Espinal hit his first home run since August 2024, going back-to-back with Mookie Betts in the Dodgers' win over the Giants.

Espinal and Mookie Betts hit back-to-back homers off Robbie Ray in the third inning. Espinal went 451 plate appearances in between homers (417 as a Red, 34 as a Dodger), with his last coming on Aug. 30, 2024. He survived the return of Betts from the IL this week, but there's the chance the Dodgers could give him the boot when Enrique Hernandez is activated, which will likely happen on May 23. If he survives over Hyeseong Kim then, he'd still be in line to go if everyone is healthy once Tommy Edman returns, assuming that Tommy Edman returns.

Performance

Robbie Ray surrendered four runs -- three earned -- and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers.

Robbie Ray had a poor outing against the Dodgers, allowing four runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings with reduced velocity and only two strikeouts.

Ray's velocity was down about one mph from his season average tonight, and he finished with just two strikeouts and a 19 percent CSW. With Santiago Espinal and Mookie Betts taking him deep, he's now allowed 10 homers in 50 1/3 innings, a significant rate increase from last year's 22 in 182 1/3 innings. His catching situation got a big downgrade and he's not likely to be particularly well supported offensively or defensively going forward, so his mixed-league value should be pretty limited. Maybe, though, it could pick up again if he's involved in a deadline deal.

Performance

Shohei Ohtani allowed only four singles over seven innings in the Dodgers' 4-0 shutout of the Giants on Wednesday.

Shohei Ohtani delivered a dominant pitching performance with seven innings of four-hit shutout baseball, striking out eight batters in the Dodgers' 4-0 victory over the Giants.

Ohtani apparently did something new with his splitter tonight, as the seven he threw were up 3.3 mph from his season average. Mostly, though, he used fastballs and sweepers, picking up all eight of his strikeouts with those two offerings. In seven starts this season, he's allowed no earned runs four times, one earned run twice and two earned runs once. It's only earned him a 3-2 record, but his ERA is sitting at 0.82. The plan still appears to be for him to get a second straight day off at the plate on Thursday. He'll be back at DH for the series against the Angels on Friday, and he'll likely make his next start Tuesday in San Diego.

Performance

Victor Scott II went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts before being lifted for a pinch-hitter Wednesday against the Athletics.

Victor Scott II went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and is struggling at the plate with a .178 batting average, likely facing a demotion to Triple-A if Lars Nootbaar returns.

If Lars Nootbaar can pull off a successful comeback later this month, Scott is probably going to find himself in Triple-A for a spell. He's hitting just .178/.243/.228, dropping his career line to .202/.277/.283. He's even disappointed a bit on the basepaths, getting caught on three of his nine steal attempts. Last year, he was 34-for-38.

Performance

Matthew Liberatore surrendered four runs and nine hits in five innings Wednesday in a loss to the A's.

Matthew Liberatore allowed four runs and nine hits over five innings in a loss to the A's, falling to 2-2 with a 4.40 ERA.

Liberatore's velocity was a little better than usual tonight and he had great success in amassing a 58 percent CSW on the 19 curveballs he threw, but thanks to Nick Kurtz's grand slam in the fifth, the results just weren't there in the end. The loss leaves him 2-2 with a 4.40 ERA. That's not much different than his 4.21 ERA from last year, but his strikeout and walk rates are both significantly worse now than they were then. If he's just going to be a fifth starter, it might be worth dropping his changeup and cutter and taking another look at him as a reliever at some point.

Performance

Despite allowing nine hits, J.T. Ginn limited the Cardinals to an unearned run over six innings to win Wednesday.

J.T. Ginn earned a win by limiting the Cardinals to an unearned run over six innings despite allowing nine hits.

Ginn gave up at least one hit each inning, but eight were singles and only four came on hard-hit balls. He induced a double play ball in the first, and the Cardinals went on to make outs on the basepaths in the fourth and sixth. Ginn, who opened 0-1 in five starts and three relief appearances, has pitched 14 innings with one earned run allowed while winning his last two starts. He'll take his next turn in Anaheim against the Angels. It's a two-start week, as he'll also face the Padres on the road, but he'd make for a risky streaming pick.

Performance

Nick Kurtz had a grand slam and a double Wednesday in the Athletics' 6-2 victory over the Cardinals.

Nick Kurtz hit a grand slam and double to lead the Athletics to a 6-2 victory over the Cardinals, breaking out against left-handed pitching.

The slam off Matthew Liberatore was Kurtz's third in 15 career at-bats with the bases loaded. It was also his first homer in 63 plate appearances against lefties this season. He's previously gone 7-for-43 with two RBI in his 12 games in which the opposition started a lefty. Fortunately, he's done plenty of damage against righties along the way, and he's currently sporting a .267/.418/.453 line for the year.

Framber Valdez allowed five hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Wednesday.

Framber Valdez pitched 6 2/3 innings with 7 strikeouts and 2 runs allowed in a no-decision against the Mets, showing sharp form in his return from suspension.

It was smooth sailing for Valdez most of the night here. The Mets barely challenged until a two out walk by their nine-hitter Luis Torrens and a bloop single by Carson Benge to follow chased Valdez from the game. Bo Bichette matched Benge with a bloop single of his own to tie this game and take the opportunity to earn a win from Valdez. Still, he was sharp in his return from suspension forcing 11 swings-and-misses, with four different pitches forcing at least two, and getting tons of ground balls. It was a nice bounce back performance before what is scheduled to be a two-start week for Valdez against the Guardians and Orioles up next.

Performance

Riley Greene went 3-for-5 with two RBI on Wednesday against the Mets.

Riley Greene went 3-for-5 with two RBI against the Mets, driving in the Tigers' only runs in an extra-inning loss.

Greene came through with a two-run knock in the first inning to give the Tigers an early lead. Those stood as their only two runs in an extra inning loss against the Mets. Oddly enough, Greene has foregone power this season in favor of more contact with just four home runs, but a .325 batting average so far this season. His strikeout rate remains relatively high, so expect that average to dip while the home runs likely follow as the weather warms up in Detroit.

Performance

Christian Scott allowed seven hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts across 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Tigers on Wednesday.

Christian Scott pitched 4 2/3 innings with 7 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts in a no-decision against the Tigers.

It was a grind for Scott in nearly every inning he pitched, but he dug deep to hold the Tigers to just two runs. Both scored in the first inning after heavy wind blew a line drive from Mets' right fielder Carson Benge before Riley Greene knocked a liner over a drawn-in infield. Why the infield would be in during the first inning is a valid question, but Scott stopped the bleeding right there. The Tigers struggled to square him up, but he also struggled to put hitters away. Especially left-handers as Scott continues to search for the splitter that was supposed to be his new weapon against them. Nevertheless, his fastball, sweeper, and cutter are all nasty and keep him at least mildly effective on most nights. He's scheduled for a two-start week coming up against the Nationals and Marlins.

Performance

Carson Benge went 3-for-5 with a walk-off single plus a stolen base and was caught stealing as well in a 3-2 win over the Tigers on Wednesday.

Carson Benge went 3-for-5 with a walk-off single and a stolen base in the Mets' 3-2 win over the Tigers, despite an early defensive miscue and being caught stealing.

Benge had his finger prints all over this game for a variety of different reasons. First, he misjudged a line drive from Colt Keith amidst heavy winds at Citi Field that clanked off his glove, turned into a double, and set-up a two-run first inning for the Tigers. Then, he knocked a couple singles and stood at third base as the go-ahead run in the seventh. The Mets ran a cheeky first and third double steal, but Benge hesitated every so slightly and was thrown out at the plate. Finally, he stepped to the plate in the 10th inning and poked a walk-off single up the middle. After a disastrous first two weeks of his career, Benge has maintained a .271 batting average over his last 30 games and found some more power lately with an .817 OPS over his last 15 games. He's also hit lead-off in two straight games, including here against a left-handed pitcher. It's officially time to put him back on our radars.

Jacob Misiorowski delivered an outstanding pitching performance with 10 strikeouts, no walks, and four hits allowed over seven shutout innings against the Padres.

There are no words for this guy. His fastball averaged 100.6 mph in this start - yes, averaged - and forced a whopping 13 swings-and-misses. Specifically in the first innings, he threw 16 of them and they averaged 102.0 mph. Even to close out his start he threw fastballs at 102.0, 101.9, and 103.2 mph on his final three pitches to punch out Nick Castellanos and finish off another gem. It's a marvel anyone can even put their bat on the ball against him when he's clicking like this. That being said, the Padres barely did as Misiorowski retired the final 14 batters he faced. Also, it's important to note that he left this game after warming up ahead of the eighth inning with quad cramps. The injury didn't seem serious, as Misiorowski chuckled a bit as manager Pat Murphy came to yank him before the inning formally began. Regardless, it's now been three consecutive starts since the last time he allowed an earned run and sports 2.12 ERA on the season to go along with 80 strikeouts and 17 walks across 51 innings. This is an ace to the highest degree and is set for a huge two-start week coming up against the Cubs and Dodgers. Get your popcorn ready for those two games.

Jackson Chourio went 1-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base on Wednesday against the Padres.

Jackson Chourio went 1-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in his seventh game back from a hand fracture, showing signs of offensive progress with 9-for-27 hitting and three doubles.

In his seventh game back from a hand fracture that took the first six weeks from his season, Chourio stole his first base of the season. He's yet to hit a home run, but is spraying hits all over the field going 9-for-27 so far with three doubles.

Performance

Abner Uribe allowed two hits, one walk, and one untimely three-run homer in one inning of work en route to a blown save against the Brewers on Wednesday.

Abner Uribe blew a save against the Brewers after allowing a three-run homer in the ninth inning.

Just as he'd gotten himself firmly back on track, Uribe crumbled here. He retired the first two hitters in the ninth while clinging to a one run lead, but gave up a single to Miguel Andujar. Then, he walked Xander Bogaerts which set up Gavin Sheets to hit a go-ahead three-run homer. He hadn't blown a save in a month and should remain the preferred closing option for the Brewers should there be no more hiccups in the near future.

Performance

Michael King allowed six hits and one run with two walks and five strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Wednesday.

Michael King pitched 5 2/3 innings with six hits, one run, two walks, and five strikeouts in a no-decision against the Brewers, showcasing strong stuff with his fastball, changeup, and sinker-sweeper combo.

King is so much fun to watch when he has everything clicking. His fastball and changeup each forced four swings-and-misses and he was tunneling those two pitches beautifully off each other against left-handed batters. At the same time, his sinker-sweeper combo tormented right-handers. The only run he gave up came after a single by Sal Frelick following an eight-pitch battler, bunt hit, and two straight fielder's choices. He'll look to take this momentum into a two-start week against the Dodgers and Athletics with both starts coming at home.

Performance

Mason Miller worked around a hit in a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn a save against the Brewers on Wednesday.

Mason Miller earned a save against the Brewers with a scoreless ninth inning, tying for the league lead with 13 saves.

After a clutch Gavin Sheets home run to put the Padres up in the top of the ninth, Miller came in for the bottom of the frame to slam the door. He allowed a lead-off single, but retired the next three to draw himself even with Cade Smith at 13 saves to lead the league. We're almost numb to his 102 mph fastballs and diabolical sliders at this point because of how consistent he's been this season.

Performance

Gavin Sheets went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in a 3-1 win on Wednesday against the Brewers.

Gavin Sheets went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run to lead the Padres to a 3-1 victory over the Brewers.

The Padres did literally nothing all game offensively as Jacob Misiorowski set them down with ease. Then, a two-out single by Miguel Andujar in the ninth inning off Abner Uribe led to a walk by Xander Bogaerts before Sheets stepped to the plate. He promptly smacked a go-ahead home run that barely cleared the right field wall and left the Milwaukee crowd stunned. That was Sheets' seventh long ball of the year as he's carved out a nice role against right-handed hitters for San Diego.
