Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Pete Fairbanks, 32-year-old right-handed closer for the Miami Marlins, was placed on the 15-day injured list on April 28, 2026, due to nerve irritation in his right hand. He completed a "very encouraging" bullpen session on May 7 and was successfully reinstated from the IL on May 13. Manager Clayton McCullough reported that Fairbanks was surprised at how well the ball came out of his hand during the session. Though he experienced a similar nerve irritation issue in 2024 with the Rays that caused him to miss three weeks, this occurrence appears less severe. Fairbanks is expected to immediately resume his role as the Marlins' primary closer. He signed a one-year, $13 million contract with Miami in the offseason after seven seasons with Tampa Bay.
