Braxton Ashcraft pitched 6 2/3 innings against the Phillies, allowing four earned runs with five strikeouts despite elevated velocity.
Ashcraft's velocity was up, averaging 97.4 mph today, but he just wasn't finding missed bats against a tough Phillies lineup. He managed swinging strikes on just 10 of 59 swings by Philadelphia, and they pounded his fastball for seven of his 11 hard-hit balls allowed. One of his runs scored came from the bullpen, as Mason Montgomery inherited a runner and immediately allowed Kyle Schwarber to pound a fastball into the seats. All and all, not a terribly disappointing effort against a hot offense. Ashcraft probably still deserves set-it-and-forget-it status against the Cardinals next week.
Aaron Nola struggled against the Pirates, allowing six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings with three walks, continuing a pattern of poor recent performances.
Ugly. Nola has now given up five or more earned runs in three of his last five starts. Both Brandon Lowe and Marcell Ozuna took him out and he left the Phillies in a 6-0 hole. The average fastball velocity is sitting near 92 mph and all eight of his hard-hit balls allowed came against his four-seamer, sinker, and cutter. He had a 6.01 ERA in 17 starts in 2025 with a 1.35 WHIP. He has a 5.91 ERA in nine starts in 2026 with a 1.55 WHIP. It'd be hard to trust him against the Reds next week.
Michael Wacha delivered a quality start with six innings pitched, allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts in a no-decision against the Cardinals.
The veteran right-hander struck out five batters in the ballgame while issuing only one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball as Jordan Walker socked a two-run dinger in the fourth inning and Pedro Pages added a solo shot in the fifth. Wacha got 12 swings and misses on 87 pitches on the night, posting a strong CSW of 33 percent. He'll try to get back in the win column as he brings an outstanding 2.83 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 47/18 K/BB ratio (57 1/3 innings) into Wednesday's matchup against the Red Sox.
Isaac Collins went 0-for-2 with two walks and two RBI in the Royals' extra-inning loss to the Cardinals, continuing a season of modest offensive production.
Collins plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning that increased the Royals' early lead to 2-0. He tacked on another with an RBI ground out in the sixth that made it a 3-3 ballgame. For the season, the 28-year-old outfielder is slashing an uninspiring .225/.345/.342 with three homers, 15 RBI and a pair of stolen bases (in five attempts).
Dustin May pitched six innings in a no-decision against the Royals, allowing three runs on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
May also issued four free passes while striking out three in the ballgame. The Royals scratched out a pair of runs against him in the fourth inning, then added another on a ground out in the sixth that tied things up at 3-3. May got eight whiffs on 91 pitches on the night while posting a CSW of 23 percent. He'll carry an underwhelming 4.81 ERA and 1.42 WHIP into Thursday's tilt against the Pirates.
Jordan Walker went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs to help the Cardinals defeat the Royals in 11 innings, continuing his breakout season.
Walker got the Cardinals on the board with a game-tying, 409-foot (104.5 mph EV) two-run shot off of Michael Wacha. He also singled twice in the ballgame. The dynamic 23-year-old outfielder has been one of the biggest surprises in all of baseball this season, slashing a robust .303/.376/.594 with 13 homers, 34 RBI and seven stolen bases through his first 186 plate appearances.

Jhoan Duran worked a save on Thursday night and wasn't used in a tied game in the bottom of the ninth, but as the Phillies tacked on a three-spot in the top of the 10th, they opted to turn it over to Kerekeing in the bottom of the inning. The reliever now has a 2.20 ERA and has allowed just one run in seven appearances in May. He's not anywhere near the saves or holds pecking order right now, but he's pitching well enough that he could be interesting if enough fell his way in the latter part of the season.
Gregory Soto allowed three runs in the ninth inning on Friday, blowing a save opportunity against the Phillies.
Konnor Griffin's fielding error started the ninth inning inauspiciously. Soto was able to get Justin Crawford, but walked Adolis Garcia and allowed a ground-ball single to Trea Turner to load the bases. Soto then walked in a run against Kyle Schwarber and allowed a two-RBI 'single' to Bryce Harper that was reviewed for a home run and went 388 feet off the top of the wall. There were silver linings here for Soto. One of them is that he was able to exit the inning when Schwarber was thrown out at third on a cutoff play, and he induced an Alec Bohm flyout. Another is that Dennis Santana was absolutely roasted to take the loss in the tenth inning, not even retiring a single batter. Soto should still have plenty of rope as Pittsburgh's closer.

To say that Schwarber is on a tear is putting it mildly: He's got a 1.133 slugging percentage over his last seven games and has hit nine homers in his last eight games to take the major league lead. His first homer sailed just above the second railing in right-center in PNC Park off a 98 mph Braxton Ashcraft fastball, and then hit a lined shot opposite field against Mason Montgomery that just kept carrying, landing 408 feet away in left-center. The second homer surprised even the Phillies announcers with how it just kept carrying. Schwarber's only hitting .237. Oh well. Enjoy the ride, fantasy managers.
Royce Lewis went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's loss to the Brewers but continues to struggle at the plate this month.
Lewis drove home Luke Keaschall in the bottom of the seventh inning for his 13th RBI on the season. The veteran third baseman continues to struggle at the dish this month, going 3-for-31 on the month while slashing .097/.194/.129. Lewis can continue to be left on waiver wires until he turns a corner.
Trevor Megill recorded his fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning against the Twins.
Megill faced the minimum of three batters on Friday and struck out Royce Lewis to end the game. Megill's save comes two days after Abner Uribe notched his ninth save of the season, with Uribe making an appearance in the eighth inning of this one. While we don't quite know the reason manager Pat Murphy elected to flip the roles for his relievers in this one, we'll assume Uribe is still the preferred option to close out games.

Brandon Lowe went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs in a loss to the Phillies, improving his season stats to .250/.352/.591 with 12 homers and 31 RBIs.
His first was a lined shot just over PNC's right-field wall to put the Pirates up 4-0 early against Aaron Nola, then added a no-doubted to right-center off Tim Mayza that still hasn't landed. (It went 422 feet.) Lowe had only garnered hits in two of his last six games entering this one, but he immediately brought his line back up to .250/.352/.591 on the season with 12 homers and 31 RBI. He's certainly been a solid find for fantasy mangers picking outside of the top tier of second basemen.
Sean Burke allowed four earned runs over 4 1/3 innings with five strikeouts in a loss to the Cubs.
After retiring the first two batters he faced to start the game, Burke allowed back-to-back singles to Alex Bregman and Ian Happ, with Happ's single driving home the Cubs' first run of the night. Burke would pitch back-to-back scoreless innings in the second and third innings, but allowed three of the first four batters he faced in the fourth to reach base, with Carson Kelly driving in the Cubs' second run of the night on a single to bring in Ian Happ. Burke would exit with one out in the fifth inning after allowing back-to-back hits to start the frame, with Michael Busch and Seiya Suzuki both doubling home runs. Burke has now struggled in back-to-back outings, allowing 10 earned runs over 8 2/3 innings pitched while letting a combined 17 runners reach base. Prior to his struggles, Burke had allowed four or more earned runs in just one of his seven starts. He'll look to right the ship in his next outing, which is scheduled for Wednesday at the Mariners.
Edward Cabrera pitched 4 2/3 innings with three earned runs and two strikeouts in a Cubs win over the White Sox.
After retiring the White Sox in order in the first inning, Cabrera would be touched up for a 403-foot solo homer by Colson Montgomery in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. He would bounce back to allow only one base runner over the next two innings, but in the fifth inning, Cabrera would walk the first two batters he faced, with both eventually coming around to score to cut the Cubs' lead to 4-3. Cabrera would not escape the inning, as he was pulled following a two-out walk to Sam Antonacci to give him his shortest outing of the season. Cabrera has now allowed three earned runs or more in each of his last seven starts, and has slowly seen his ERA balloon to 4.06 after finishing April with a 3.06 ERA.
Carson Kelly went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI in the Cubs' win over the White Sox, continuing his hot streak at the plate.
Kelly continues to swing a hot bat for the Cubs, and is now slashing .281/.324/.313 on the month. The veteran catcher drove in his first run of the night in the fourth inning when he singled home Ian Happy, and later drove in Alex Bregman from third on another RBI single in the seventh inning. In a four-run eighth inning for the Cubs, Kelly doubled with the bases loaded to drive home both Bregman and Seiya Suzuki, to put the finishing touches on one of his best nights at the dish. Kelly has had a decent month, but has yet to homer and has only one extra-base hit to show for his efforts over that span.
Bryce Harper went 4-for-5 with two RBI in the Phillies' win over the Pirates, continuing his strong start to the season with a .282/.372/.534 slash line and 10 homers in 34 games.
Not often you go 4-for-5 and get outshined by a teammate, but here we are. With the Phillies staked to an early 6-0 hole, Harper plinked three singles into the shallow outfield before unleashing a 388-foot 'single' off the top of the right-center field wall off Gregory Soto that tied the game in the top of the ninth. The 33-year-old superstar is now hitting .282/.372/.534 in his first 34 games of the year, with 10 homers and two stolen bases.

Montgomery's 12th homer of the season came in the second inning off of Cubs starter Edward Cabrera, who hung a changeup over the middle of the plate, which Montgomery deposited into right-center field. Montgomery has now homered in back-to-back games and three times in his last five.

Talk about a tough break. On the night when Leiter had one of his best outings of the season, the righty was outshone by Astros starter Spencer Arrighetti, who took a no-hitter into the eighth inning. Leiter did everything he could to position the Rangers for a win in this one, but the solo homer he allowed to Isaac Paredes in the third inning proved to be too much to overcome in this one. Leiter has allowed just one earned run in his last two starts while pitching 11 2/3 innings and striking out 12. He'll look to pick up his second win of the season on Wednesday at the Rockies.

Paredes broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when he blasted a solo shot off Jack Leiter to give the Astros a 1-0 lead. It was all the Astros would end up needing, as starter Spencer Arrighetti would pitch 7 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball before having the no-no broken up by Justin Foscue in the eighth inning. It was just the fourth homer of the season for Paredes, who has now hit safely in four of his last six games and is slashing .265/.368/.388 on the month.

Foscue laced a one-out single into left field in the eighth inning to break up Spencer Arrighetti's no-hitter. His hit would be the only one of the night for the Rangers, who struggled to get anything going despite only striking out six times as a team. It was just the third hit of the season for Foscue, who was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock earlier this month.
Tanner Bibee struggled against the Reds, allowing seven hits and three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings while falling to 0-6, with his hard-hit rate spiking to 46.2 percent.
Bibee's fastballs are just getting pulverized right now. Six of his ten hard-hit balls allowed were on his four-seamer or sinker, and his hard-hit rate has spiked from 36.6 percent in 2025 to 46.2 percent this year. He's got enough guile to pitch decently for the Guardians, but the trends here have him feeling hard to start in shallow leagues. He'll be a 15-team stream option against the Kerry Carpenter-less Tigers next week.
Tejay Antone earned his first save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning for the Reds against the Guardians.
Up 6-1 in the eighth inning, we weren't really expecting to have a save chance to write about for the Reds today. But Graham Ashcraft went Graham Splat, loading the bases with walks and allowing an RBI single without recording an out before Brock Burke walked in two more in relief of him. Having already used Pierce Johnson and Tony Santillan, the Reds turned to Antone, who allowed a triple to Kyle Manzardo but got three other batters out between that. Does this mean the Reds have a new closer? No, it means this game was weird. But Antone has good stuff and certainly could factor into what has become a full-blown committee in Emilio Pagan's absence.

Rice's first hit came in the third inning when he singled off former teammate Clay Holmes. He would come around to score two batters later via an RBI single by Cody Bellinger, and drove himself home in the ninth inning when he blasted a 415-foot solo homer to give the Yankees a 5-1 lead. It was the 14th homer of the season for Rice, who has now homered four times in May and is slashing .282/.349/.615 on the month.

Arrighetti took a no-hitter into the eighth inning but had it broken up by Justin Foscue with one out. Despite walking four batters, Arrighetti never walked more than one batter in any inning and successfully pitched his way out of danger while firing five strikeouts. With this latest outing, Arrighetti has now lowered his ERA to 1.50 on the season while picking up his fifth win. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday on the road against the Twins.

Andrew Abbott pitched five innings against the Guardians, allowing one run on four hits and three walks, improving his seasonal ERA to 4.21 after a strong stretch.
Buried by most after exiting April with a 5.97 ERA, Abbott has fought hard in his last three outings, allowing just one earned run in the process, to cut his seasonal ERA back to 4.21. Is it still mostly smoke and mirrors? Oh yeah. He struck out just two Guardians today and got a whiff on just three of 35 swings, and his walk rate has spiked to 9.9 percent. Will we recommend him against the Phillies next week? Probably not. But is it fun that he's back on whatever dark magic it takes for someone with this underlying profile to pitch like this? Undoubtedly.
Matt McLain went 2-for-3 with a home run, stolen base, and three RBI in Cincinnati's 7-6 win over the Guardians, continuing a hot streak with back-to-back multi-hit games.
That makes back-to-back games with multiple hits and a homer for McLain, who snuck one over the left field porch against Peyton Pallette in an eighth-inning add on that the Reds turned out to very much need. McLain has raised his season line from .205/.310/.311 to .223/.330/.369 in the last two games. He's still not running as much as we'd like, but fantasy managers can feel free to hope this turns into a JJ Bleday-esque hot streak.

It's the sixth homer of the season for Soto, who was responsible for one of the Mets' five hits on the evening. Soto has now hit safely in three of his last four games but is slashing a dismal .174/.250/.348 on the month.

Zack Littell earned his second win of the season by throwing five shutout innings against the Orioles, though he allowed hard contact and his ERA remains elevated at 6.10.
Sure, we all saw these results coming. Littell turned ten hard-hit balls and seven whiffs in 40 swings into just two hits allowed and two walks, lowering his season ERA to 6.10. He allowed a double to Gunnar Henderson that would have been a homer in 19-of-30 parks, a 360-foot out to Tyler O'Neill that would have gone out of 12 parks, and assorted other loud contact along the way. Great news for him, but don't be fooled -- he's not worth starting even in what looks to be a good matchup against the Mets next week.
Marcelo Mayer hit his second home run and walked against the Braves, though his overall batting average remains disappointing at .233.
Mayer's other homer came on Apr. 3 against the Padres. He's been really good defensively at second base for Boston, but his .233/.302/.336 line is quite disappointing, especially since he isn't even playing against lefties. Fortunately for him, Kristian Campbell still isn't really looking like a major leaguer while playing in Triple-A. If the Red Sox did need another infielder, they might be more likely to call up Nick Sogard.
Connelly Early pitched five innings with two runs allowed and six strikeouts against the Braves, demonstrating solid performance with strong baserunner management.
Early surrendered homers to Drake Baldwin in the first and Michael Harris II in the fourth, but he did a nice job otherwise in stranding five runners. That he's been able to strand 86 percent of his baserunners this year is a big reason why has a 3.21 ERA against a 4.58 FIP and a 4.11 xERA. Early remains a lesser option in mixed leagues, but his matchup against the Royals next week is reasonable.
Spencer Strider pitched 5 1/3 innings against the Red Sox with strong performance metrics including a 2.45 ERA over his last three starts since returning from an oblique strain.
Strider got a pickoff in the first inning and caught stealing in the fourth and fifth inning to aid the cause tonight. He walked three and struck out just four, even though he generated 16 missed swings tonight. Opposing starter Connelly Early had six strikeouts and eight whiffs, by way of comparison. In three starts since returning from an oblique strain, Strider has a 2.45 ERA and an 18/10 K/BB in 14 2/3 innings. He'll pitch in Miami next time out.
Mike Yastrzemski hit a game-winning double in the 10th inning to lift the Braves over the Red Sox 2-1, improving his week's stats and OPS.
As the leadoff man in a tie game in the 10th, Yastrzemski tried twice to bunt the runner to third, but both rolled foul. That freed him up to swing away, and he lined a ball into left-center to end the game. Yastrzemski is 4-for-7 with one homer, two doubles and five RBI in his four appearances this week, raising his OPS from .516 to .597. He needs a little hot streak here to guarantee that he starts over Mauricio Dubon against righties after Ronald Acuna Jr. returns.

It was business as usual for Schlittler, who struck out a season-high nine batters while allowing just three to reach base. Schlittler took a one-hit shutout into the seventh inning, but lost it on a leadoff homer by Juan Soto to give the Mets their first run on the night. Schlittler continues to be one of the most dominant arms in baseball, now boasting a 1.35 ERA and 0.78 WHIP on the season. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Blue Jays.

Holmes held his former team scoreless through the first two innings but ran into some trouble in the third inning. After retiring the first two batters he faced in the frame, Holmes would allow back-to-back singles to Ben Rice and Aaron Judge, who were then driven home by back-to-back doubles from Cody Bellinger and Jazz Chisholm. Holmes would retire Ryan McMahon on strikes to end the inning, but was charged with one more earned run in the fifth inning after being pulled for Austin Warren. Holmes struck out a season-high eight batters despite having his shortest and arguably his worst outing of the season. He draws another tough start in his next outing, which is scheduled for Wednesday on the road against the Nationals.
Jose Ramirez went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Cleveland's loss to the Reds, raising his season average to .220 despite ongoing struggles at the plate.
It was his first three-hit effort of the season, even if two of the hits were singles and he didn't provide much juice with them. Ramirez fought hard to undo his ghastly 25 at-bats in March with a .250/.384/.500 April, but he's hit just .216/.359/.255 in May and entered play today with a .207 average for the season. This effort raised it to .220. The underlying metrics continue to believe that Ramirez will pull out of this, as he has a .370 xwOBA against a .318 actual wOBA. It is worth noting that his strikeout rate has creeped up to 14.2 percent this year, but fantasy managers should expect him to come alive sooner rather than later.

The plan originally was for Andrew Alvarez to go four and piggyback off Zack Littell, but Alvarez allowed a single and walk to start the ninth inning. Gus Varland, the closer in name if not in results, walked Leodys Taveras, struck out Coby Mayo, and allowed a sacrifice fly to get the Nationals to two outs. Then the Nationals summoned Lovelady to deal with lefty-hitting Gunnar Henderson. Henderson singled to bring the Orioles within a run, and after a Taylor Ward walk loaded the bases, the lefty was able to freeze Adley Rutschman on the outside corner to end the game. Varland still looks like the closer to roster in this pen in fantasy leagues, but the Nationals don't really have a good answer right now.

It would be the only run Ryans would allow on the night, as he settled in to pitch five-straight scoreless frames while tying a season-high with seven strikeouts. Ryan has allowed two earned runs or fewer in his last four starts, but hasn't won a game since April 11th. He'll look to pick up his third win of the season in his next outing, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the Astros.

Chourio also struck out three times in this one, but both of his hits and runs proved vital in the 3-2 victory. It's still an issue that he just can't maintain his best velocity for more than an inning or two, but as long as the Dodgers keep starting him, he'll probably be worth using in mixed leagues. He'll make his next start Wednesday versus the Padres.

With both Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts resting, Smith made his first ever start as a leadoff hitter and wasted no time in putting the Dodgers on the board against Landon Roupp. It was technically his second homer as a leadoff man. He'd come off the bench to occupy that spot twice previously, and one of those two at-bats produced a walkoff three-run homer against the Rockies' Scott Oberg on June 23, 2019. Smith has yet to get hot at any point this season, but he surely will. He's currently hitting .258/.329/.379 with four homers through 140 plate appearances.

Happ started the sixth inning by working Chris Sale for a seven-pitch walk. He then advanced to second on a fielder's choice and took third on an error before scoring the game's first run on a fielder's choice off the bat of Matt Shaw. He then provided a massive insurance run with a 424-foot (107.6 mph EV) solo shot off of Reynaldo Lopez in the eighth inning. For the season, the 31-year-old slugger is now hitting .234/.376/.481 with 10 homers, 19 RBI and a pair of stolen bases through his first 189 plate appearances.
Jung Hoo Lee hit an inside-the-park two-run homer against the Dodgers, his third homer of the season, while maintaining league-average offensive and defensive production.
Lee's homer was a 73-mph fly down the left field line that landed just fair and then took an odd bounce off the side wall past a rather nonchalant Teoscar Hernandez. It went as his third homer of the year. He's batting .267/.313/.394 in 179 plate appearances. It's not quite what the Giants were hoping for, but at least he's been a league-average hitter and fielder after moving from center to right.
Kris Bubic was ineffective in Thursday's loss to the White Sox, allowing five runs on five hits in four innings with a poor 18 percent CSW.
The 28-year-old left-hander also walked three batters in the contest while striking out four. Randal Grichuk did most of the damage against him, smacking a two-run homer in the opening inning and adding a two-run single in the third. Bubic got six swings and misses on 84 pitches on the night, registering a miserable CSW of only 18 percent. He'll look to bounce back as he lugs a 4.11 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 51/26 K/BB ratio (50 1/3 innings) into Tuesday's tilt against the Red Sox.
Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 with two singles in the Royals' loss to the White Sox, improving his season stats to .200/.239/.339 with 6 home runs and 18 RBIs.
Perez smacked a two-out single off of Anthony Kay in the third inning but never advanced beyond first base. He also led off the eighth inning with a single off of Sean Newcomb but the Royals couldn't cash him in. The 36-year-old backstop has picked it up a bit offensively following a miserable start to the season and is now slashing .200/.239/.339 with six long balls and 18 RBI in 176 plate appearances on the season.
Ben Brown delivered a dominant pitching performance with seven strikeouts over four shutout innings against the Braves, though he did not receive a decision.
The 26-year-old right-hander allowed just one hit and one walk on the evening. Brown got stretched out to 65 pitches in this one, throwing 40 of those for strikes and getting nine swings and misses, leading to a CSW of 29 percent. Brown has proven that he belongs in the Cubs' rotation and needs to be rostered and started in all fantasy leagues for Tuesday's divisional showdown against the Brewers.
Daniel Palencia closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning and has converted his first three save opportunities with a 2.25 ERA this season.
Palencia opened the inning by striking out Michael Harris II and Mauricio Dubon before allowing a two-out single to Austin Riley that brought the tying run to the dish. Ha-Seong Kim went 0-for-3 with a strikeout as the Braves were shut out by the Cubs, and he continues to struggle offensively since returning from the injured list.
As a team, the Braves had just five hits in the contest -- all of them singles -- so Kim wasn't solely responsible for the ineffective night at the plate. He has struggled since returning from the injured list, slashing just .111/.200/.111 with zero RBI through his first 10 plate appearances on the season.
