Brant Hurter, a relief pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, sustained his first loss of the 2026 season on May 9 against the Kansas City Royals. Despite the setback, Hurter has been excellent out of the bullpen with a 1.77 ERA and 0.84 WHIP across 20.1 innings pitched. In the loss, he allowed one run on two hits and a walk across 1.2 innings of relief, striking out one batter. He came on in relief in the eighth inning and escaped without further damage, but gave up a double and single in the ninth inning that resulted in the go-ahead run. Prior to this loss, Hurter had compiled a 4-1 record.
