Lucas Giolito, 31-year-old right-handed pitcher, signed with the San Diego Padres on April 22, 2026 after remaining unsigned through the offseason. He missed the entire 2024 season due to an internal brace repair procedure on his right elbow. After posting a 3.41 ERA with a 10-4 record and 121 strikeouts in 145 innings for the Boston Red Sox in 2025, Giolito made his Padres debut on May 18, 2026 against the Seattle Mariners. In his debut, he pitched 5 scoreless innings on just 1 hit with 3 strikeouts, 3 walks, and 1 hit batter before being removed after allowing 3 consecutive walks in the 6th inning that resulted in 3 runs scoring. He completed four minor league rehab starts (4.76 ERA over 17 innings) before his promotion, with his final tune-up being his best (6 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 0 BB). Giolito signed a one-year deal worth $3MM base plus $5MM in incentives with a mutual option for 2027.
