Updated May 17, 2026
Max Fried, 32-year-old Yankees ace, departed his start against the Baltimore Orioles on May 14, 2026 after just three innings due to left elbow posterior soreness. MRI and CT scans revealed a bone bruise to his left elbow. He was placed on the 15-day IL. Dr. Neal Elattrache reviewed imaging for due diligence, but Fried's ulnar collateral ligament is intact and no surgery is required. Fried expressed optimism about a near-term return, hoping to make his next start. This is his latest in a series of arm injuries dating back to Tommy John surgery in 2014. Prior to the injury, Fried was performing excellently as the Yankees' ace with a 4-1 record, 2.39 ERA, and was ranked 5th among MLB starting pitchers. He leads MLB with 61.2 innings pitched and has been dominant at limiting hits and home runs.
