Updated May 19, 2026
Gage Workman was called up from Triple-A Toledo to the Detroit Tigers on May 10, 2026, after Kerry Carpenter was placed on the 10-day IL with a left AC joint sprain. Workman had been performing exceptionally well at Triple-A, hitting .358 with a 1.003 OPS, 4 home runs, 28 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases over 35 games. In his MLB debut as a pinch hitter, Workman hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning (382 feet, 101.4 mph exit velo) to lead the Tigers to a 6-3 victory over the Royals, snapping Detroit's five-game losing streak. This was Workman's first at-bat with the Tigers after being drafted in the fourth round in 2020. He had previously been a Rule 5 pick by the Cubs in 2024 and briefly played for the White Sox before returning to Detroit's organization.
