Nate Lowe -- Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis sources for Nate Lowe of the Cincinnati Reds
Nathaniel Lowe completed his first full season with the Texas Rangers in 2021 and demonstrated breakout potential despite inconsistencies. Though drafted by Tampa Bay in 2016, Lowe's early MLB cups of coffee were disappointing, with a 31.8% strikeout rate offsetting his strong batting eye and power. After the Rays traded him to Texas in December 2020, Lowe improved significantly. In 2021, he posted an offensive line 15% above league average with the 16th highest walk rate among qualified batters, though his strikeout rate remained elevated at 25.2%. His power output was a concern, with only 18 home runs.
The Rangers are actively pursuing roster improvements after losing 102 games in 2021. Even with recent signings of Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, projections suggest the team will win only around 73 games in 2022. The organization has expressed interest in trading for Oakland Athletics first baseman Matt Olson, a premier player coming off career-best seasons across multiple offensive categories. While Olson would be a significant upgrade, the Rangers should not dismiss Lowe's value. At similar ages and with comparable timelines on their respective contracts, Lowe represents a viable option as a middle-of-the-order bat and should not be viewed as a significant barrier to pursuing other acquisitions.
