Scouting Report: James Free
Chicago Cubs | C
Overall
Summary
Cody Freeman, versatile utility infielder for the Texas Rangers, has been sidelined since mid-February with a stress reaction in his lower back. After nearly six weeks of recovery, Freeman experienced a setback in early May 2026 that will require him to take several days off from fielding activities. The Rangers initially hoped to activate him before May 24 (the first day players with IL stints dating to season start become eligible), but the setback has pushed his expected return to late May or early June. Freeman has been working out at the Rangers' Arizona facility but remains unavailable for games.
Strengths
- Versatile utility player with energetic approach
