Scouting Report: Jake Polancic

Chicago Cubs | RP

C

Overall

IL-15

Summary

Jorge Polanco, signed to a 2-year, $40M deal with the Mets to replace Pete Alonso, has been plagued by injuries since mid-April. Initially placed on IL with a right wrist contusion after just 14 games, he subsequently developed Achilles bursitis that has become the primary concern. Polanco received a platelet-rich plasma injection and has been taking batting practice with "good days and bad days." Manager Carlos Mendoza indicated the wrist is progressing but Achilles bursitis remains problematic. No clear return timeline established. Performance before injury was poor: .179/.246/.286 with 53 wRC+ in 61 plate appearances, featuring a 33.3% hard-hit rate (lowest since 2019) and only 2 barrels on 45 batted balls. Notably, Polanco has missed 26 games in his first 1.5 months with the Mets compared to Pete Alonso missing only 24 games in 7 full seasons.

Strengths

  • Strong spring training performance (146 wRC+ in 11 games)
  • Currently taking batting practice and progressing through baseball activities
