Scouting Report: Cole Urman
Chicago Cubs | C
Overall
Summary
Cole Ragans, All-Star LHP for the Kansas City Royals, was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 7 with left elbow impingement (Valgus Extension Overload/VEO). He experienced discomfort during a Wednesday start against Cleveland, pitching only 3 innings before exiting. Medical evaluation revealed no structural damage. Ragans received a lubricant injection and will be shut down 3-4 days before resuming baseball activities. Manager Matt Quatraro expects a minimal IL stay. Ragans has a history of two Tommy John surgeries but indicated this injury felt different. His 2024 performance was strong (3.14 ERA over 32 starts), but 2025 was hampered by injuries (4.67 ERA in 13 starts). Current 2026 ERA stands at 4.84.
