Luis Arraez -- Injury Report
Injury Report sources for Luis Arraez of the San Francisco Giants
Luis Arraez is sitting out the Giants' series finale against the Padres due to a left thumb injury sustained during the previous road trip. Despite a strong all-around performance in Monday's game, Arraez felt discomfort and sat Tuesday and Wednesday. Manager Tony Vitello explained the decision to rest him through Thursday's scheduled day off, stating: "You stare at that off day and rather than maybe get over the hump (now), you can tally up three days together. (That's better) than kind of taking two steps forward, one step back." The team hopes Arraez will be available for Friday's opener against Pittsburgh.
Arraez remains one of the Giants' most productive players, hitting .316 with a wRC+ of 109, and is tied for the MLB lead in Outs Above Average at any position. Meanwhile, the Giants are managing multiple injuries. Harrison Bader, sidelined for 22 games with a left hamstring strain, began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. Daniel Susac (elbow neuritis) will join Bader in Sacramento Thursday. Versatile rookie Jesús Rodríguez is handling catcher duties and can play right field, providing flexibility for the roster. Right-hander Jason Foley has advanced to live batting practice sessions in Arizona, while fellow offseason addition Sam Hentges continues his Triple-A rehab and could be activated within the week.
