The Pittsburgh Pirates announced a nine-year contract extension for infielder Konnor Griffin through 2034. The 19-year-old was promoted to the majors on April 3 and has appeared in five games with one double, three RBI, two walks, and two runs scored. Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting stated the signing reflects the organization's confidence in Griffin and its commitment to building a winning team.

Griffin had an outstanding 2025 minor league season across three levels, batting .333 with 23 doubles, 4 triples, 21 home runs, 94 RBI, 65 stolen bases, 117 runs scored, and a .942 OPS in 122 games. He ranked second in runs scored across minor league baseball, fifth in hits and total bases (255), and was named Baseball America's Minor League Player of the Year. He is ranked as the top prospect in all of baseball by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline.

Grifton was selected 9th overall in the 2024 draft from Jackson Preparatory School in Mississippi. He joins an elite group of five players to win both Baseball America's High School Player of the Year and Minor League Player of the Year awards. This extension makes Griffin the third Pirates player to sign a long-term deal recently, following Bryan Reynolds (eight years in 2023) and Mitch Keller (five years in 2024).
