Jackson Chourio -- Injury Report
Injury Report sources for Jackson Chourio of the Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers activated Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn from the injured list before Monday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Both players had been sidelined with fractured bones in their left hands. Chourio, acquired in his first season with the team, was injured on March 4 when struck by a pitch from Washington's Clayton Beeter during a World Baseball Classic exhibition game. An MRI later revealed a hairline fracture at the base of the third metacarpal that wasn't visible in initial testing. Vaughn, acquired from the Chicago White Sox, suffered a fractured hamate bone during the season-opening win on opening day.
The Brewers placed both players in the starting lineup and optioned outfielder Blake Perkins to Triple-A Nashville while designating outfielder Greg Jones for assignment. Milwaukee had been significantly hampered by injuries to its power hitters, with Chourio, Vaughn, and 2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich (adductor strain since April 12) all on the injured list. The team entered Monday with only 22 home runs—second-fewest in MLB—and a .354 slugging percentage that ranked third-worst.
Chourio's return is particularly significant given his track record: he collected at least 20 homers and 20 stolen bases in each of his first two major league seasons. Vaughn contributed 9 homers and an .869 OPS in 64 games for Milwaukee last season. The departing players had struggled considerably: Perkins batted .109 with a .212 on-base percentage in 19 games, while Jones hit .095 with one RBI in 22 plate appearances.
Jackson Chourio has been reinstated by the Milwaukee Brewers ahead of their Monday evening matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals. The outfielder suffered a fracture at the base of his left-middle finger on March 4 while competing in a World Baseball Classic exhibition game for Venezuela. What was initially expected to be a 2-to-4 week absence extended significantly after further imaging revealed a hairline fracture, sidelining Chourio through the entire first month of the 2026 season.
During a Triple-A Nashville rehab game on Saturday, Chourio experienced another setback when he fouled a ball off his left ankle, creating uncertainty about his availability. However, subsequent X-rays came back negative, and manager Pat Murphy indicated Saturday was a critical monitoring day before making a decision. The Brewers ultimately cleared Chourio to return.
The Brewers (18-15) also reinstated first baseman Andrew Vaughn, who had been out since opening day with a hamate bone injury. To accommodate these roster moves, Milwaukee optioned outfielder Blake Perkins and designated infielder Greg Jones for assignment. Chourio enters the lineup with a .272 career average, 42 home runs, and 157 RBIs. His return is significant timing as the Brewers entered the week tied for the second-fewest home runs in Major League Baseball.
