Owen Caissie -- Trade Rumors
Trade Rumors sources for Owen Caissie of the Miami Marlins
The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Edward Cabrera from Miami this offseason, sending their no. 1 prospect Owen Caissie along with infield prospects Cristian Hernandez and Edgardo De Leon. The Cubs viewed the deal as necessary to strengthen their starting rotation and chase a championship, with Cabrera under team control through 2028. However, the trade appears to have favored Chicago, as both players have underperformed post-deal.
Caissie has been particularly disappointing for the Marlins in 2026. After an impressive start through seven games with a .348 batting average and a walk-off home run, the 23-year-old has collapsed. Since April 4, he is batting .154 with no home runs and 6 RBIs. On the season, he is slashing .198/.254/.317 with an OPS of .571 through 114 plate appearances, coupled with an alarming 41.2% strikeout rate.
Marlins president Peter Bendix acknowledged the adjustment struggles, stating that "adjusting to major league pitching is the hardest thing a player is ever going to do." Bendix noted Caissie has never failed previously in his career and is dealing with the challenge of being tested at the highest level. Meanwhile, Cabrera's own performance has declined, posting a 5.19 ERA over his last six starts, though the Cubs view the acquisition as still worthwhile for their competitive window.
