Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Matt Strahm, 34-year-old left-handed reliever for the Kansas City Royals, was placed on the 15-day injured list on May 16, 2026, due to right knee inflammation. The injury occurred during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Strahm was acquired from the Phillies in December 2025 for $4.5MM and came off an excellent 2.30 ERA in 125 relief innings from 2024-25 with a 2024 All-Star nomination. However, his 2026 performance has been inconsistent with a 3.86 ERA and 23.9% strikeout rate, both worse than the previous year. His velocity is also down (91.1 MPH vs. 92.2 MPH previously). Bailey Falter was reinstated from the IL to replace him.
Strengths

- + Excellent 2.30 ERA in 125 relief innings from 2024-25

Injury Status: IL-15 -- Right knee inflammation. Strahm aggravated the knee during the ninth inning of Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He has a history of right knee inflammation (September 2020 and 2021), but recovered quickly both times (12 days and 2 weeks respectively). The Royals expect a quick recovery.
