Dillon Dingler -- General News

General News sources for Dillon Dingler of the Detroit Tigers

Dillon Dingler has been officially promoted to the Detroit Tigers, assuming the role of starting catcher after the team traded Carson Kelly to the Texas Rangers. Dingler was the only other catcher on the 40-man roster and has been performing well in the minor leagues, warranting the call-up. He will make his MLB debut as the starting catcher, batting sixth.

Dingler attended Jackson High School in Massillon, Ohio, before playing college baseball at Ohio State University. He was drafted 38th overall in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft by Detroit after ranking as the 24th prospect by MLB Pipeline and 27th by Baseball America. Prior to the draft, Dingler was having a spectacular junior season, batting .340 with 10 extra-base hits (5 home runs) in 13 games before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the season.

After being drafted, Dingler progressed through the Tigers minor league system, making an immediate impact in the low minors. In 2021, scouts observed him demonstrating excellent defensive tools and hitting ability with the West Michigan Whitecaps, where he was promoted to Double-A Erie after just six weeks. His continued excellence in the minor leagues has resulted in his promotion to the major leagues.
