Scouting Report
Updated May 19, 2026
Luis Gil, the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year, has been shut down by the Yankees due to shoulder inflammation. He will not throw for at least three weeks. Gil has had a frustrating 18-month stretch, missing the first four months of 2025 with a significant lat strain. Upon his August return, he posted a 3.32 ERA over 57 innings but saw his strikeout rate drop 10 percentage points. In April 2026, he was knocked around in three of four starts before being optioned to Triple-A on April 27. The Yankees believe this shoulder inflammation is a new injury unrelated to his poor MLB performance.
