Updated May 19, 2026
Hunter Harvey, signed by the Cubs to a $6.5M one-year deal, has suffered a significant setback in his recovery from triceps inflammation. An MRI revealed a stress reaction in his right triceps after he experienced soreness during a bullpen session on May 8. Harvey will be shut down for at least another month with no clear return timeline. He has only made 4 appearances for the Cubs (6.75 ERA over 4 innings) before being placed on the IL on April 9. This continues a career-long pattern of injuries that has limited Harvey to just 189 innings over 186 games since his 2019 debut, with 12+ prior IL stints.
