Scouting Report: Geovanny Planchart
Overall
Summary
Jorge Polanco, signed to a 2-year, $40M deal with the Mets, has struggled significantly in his first season. After just 14 games, he was placed on the injured list with a right wrist contusion and Achilles injury (bursitis). He batted .179 with a 53 wRC+ in 61 plate appearances before injury. Polanco received a PRP injection for his Achilles and is taking batting practice, but his return date remains unclear and depends on pain tolerance. Manager Carlos Mendoza indicated he will likely be eased back as a DH when healthy. Contact quality metrics show concerning decline with a 33.3% hard-hit rate (lowest since 2019), only 2 barrels on 45 batted balls, and exit velocity down to 87.3 mph.
Strengths
- Strong spring training performance with 146 wRC+ in 11 games
- Posted 2 home runs and equal walks to strikeouts in spring
