Scouting Report: Carlos Mendoza

Toronto Blue Jays | 3B

Overall

Summary

Carlos Mendoza is the manager of the New York Mets during a challenging 2026 season. The team started with a 10-21 record through 31 games, one of the worst starts in franchise history. Despite the poor record, team President David Stearns announced on May 3rd that Mendoza would remain as manager, stating they do not view this as a manager problem. The Mets have shown recent improvement with a 3-1 stretch in their last four games. Mendoza has been managing key injuries to star players Juan Soto (day-to-day with right foot injury from foul ball) and Francisco Lindor (left calf strain with no return timetable). Mendoza has also been making strategic lineup adjustments, including moving Juan Soto to the leadoff spot to create more offensive opportunities. The team is working on getting relief pitcher A.J. Minter back from a lat strain injury.

Strengths

  • Team management confidence - President Stearns publicly backed Mendoza despite poor record
  • Recent team momentum - Mets went 3-1 in last four games after brutal start
