Summary
Brendan Donovan, the Mariners' key offseason acquisition and All-Star third baseman, has been dealing with a left groin muscle strain since April 17-18, 2026. He underwent sports hernia surgery in October 2025. After initially being placed on the 10-day IL, Donovan completed a brief rehab assignment with Double-A Arkansas (1-for-3 with a double, RBI, and two walks) before being activated and returned to the lineup. However, he was subsequently placed back on the IL after 20 days with a recurring groin strain. When healthy, Donovan has been one of the Mariners' best hitters, batting .304 with a .437 OBP, .518 SLG, .954 OPS, 3 HRs, 3 doubles, and 9 walks in 18 games. He serves as the primary third baseman and leadoff hitter against right-handed pitchers.
