Scouting Report: Tristen Lutz
St Louis Cardinals | CF
Overall
Summary
Tristen Lutz has been pulled off his rehab assignment by the Rays due to a left shoulder injury, marking his third injury setback in recent months. He has yet to make his MLB debut after being acquired from the Reds in the offseason as the intended primary second baseman. Previously dealing with oblique discomfort in Spring Training, a right shoulder impingement in mid-March, and a left ankle injury in April, Lutz's latest shoulder injury will require imaging and likely result in a 60-day IL placement. He has appeared in 21 Triple-A games with a .200 batting average, 1 home run, 20 walks, and 23 strikeouts across 90 plate appearances. The timing is particularly unfortunate as he enters his final year before free agency.
Strengths
- High walk rate in Triple-A (20 walks in 90 PA)
- Acquired as reclamation project with opportunity to prove himself
