Scouting Report: Jhonny Pereda

Seattle Mariners | C

A

Overall

Summary

Jhonny Pereda, a veteran catcher acquired by the Seattle Mariners from the Minnesota Twins in late January 2026, has impressed during his time with the organization. Initially recalled as a third catcher when Cal Raleigh suffered right side soreness, Pereda demonstrated strong performance in limited action, going 2-for-2 with a run scored in his second start against the Atlanta Braves on May 6. He was optioned back to Triple-A Tacoma on May 8 when Raleigh returned, but was recalled again on May 14 after Raleigh was placed on the IL with an oblique strain. Pereda has earned praise for his defensive abilities, pitch selection acumen, and professional approach, working closely with pitching coach Pete Woodworth. His strong spring training performance and solid 2025 season with the Twins (.345/.387/.483 slash line, 0.4 bWAR in 11 games) have positioned him as a capable backup option for the Mariners' catching duties.
