day-to-day

Summary

Ethan Roberts, a Cubs right-handed pitcher, suffered a freak injury on April 14 when a medicine ball rebounded during a workout at Citizens Bank Park, causing a laceration to his right middle finger. He was placed on the 15-day IL but was cleared for a rehab assignment approximately one week later. Through five rehab appearances with Triple-A Iowa, Roberts posted a 5:4 K:BB ratio across five innings while allowing just one run. He was activated from the IL on May 17 after successfully completing his rehab assignment. Prior to the injury, Roberts had pitched well in the majors, allowing zero runs over 2.2 innings across three appearances with only one batter reaching base out of 10 faced. He is expected to contribute to the Cubs' bullpen as the team deals with multiple injuries to their pitching staff.

Strengths

  • No runs allowed in 2.2 MLB innings before injury
  • Strong rehab performance with 5:4 K:BB ratio
