Scouting Report: Otto Kemp
Overall
Summary
Otto Kemp, 26-year-old utility player (INF/OF), was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on May 18, 2026, replacing Felix Reyes. Kemp was optioned down approximately one month prior after struggling with a 2-for-20 start (.100 BA, .282 OPS in 10 games). Since his demotion, he has shown significant improvement in Triple-A with a .452 slugging percentage and 9 extra-base hits over 24 games. In May at Triple-A, he batted .268 with an .830 OPS but has cooled recently, batting .071 with a .204 OPS over his last 7 games. The Phillies are using him as a right-handed bat option against left-handed pitchers (Lodolo, Abbott) in the Cincinnati Reds series. Kemp has struggled defensively in left field (-50 DRS in limited time) and has limited major league experience (218 PA in 2025, .709 OPS).
Strengths
- Significant improvement in Triple-A since demotion (9 XBH in 24 games)
