Scouting Report: Keaton Anthony
Overall
Summary
Roman Anthony, 21-year-old Boston Red Sox outfielder, was placed on the 10-day IL with a right wrist sprain suffered during his first at-bat on May 5, 2026 against Detroit. After initial optimism about avoiding IL placement, Anthony experienced soreness during rehab swings on May 18, forcing the team to halt batting activity. The injury has delayed his return into late June. Anthony is hitting .229 with 1 HR in 30 games (130 PA) with a .675 OPS, underperforming expectations after signing an 8-year, $130M contract as a rookie. This is his second IL stint in as many seasons (oblique strain in 2025). Team is currently 16-21, last in AL East.
Strengths
- Rookie showed promise in 2025 (.292/.396/.463, 3rd in AL ROY voting)
- Team optimistic injury is not serious
