Scouting Report: Angel Chivilli
New York Yankees | RP
Overall
Summary
Yusei Kikuchi, a two-time All-Star pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, was placed on the 15-day injured list on May 5, 2026, with left shoulder inflammation after exiting his start on April 30 after just two innings. The Angels have shut him down from throwing for 3-4 weeks in hopes of avoiding surgery. An MRI was taken but results have not been publicly disclosed. Manager Kurt Suzuki indicated the initial plan is encouraging, with a focus on rehabilitation and building him back up. Surgery remains a possibility if rehab does not progress as planned. Kikuchi was expected to be a leader of the Angels' rotation but has struggled this season with a 5.81 ERA over seven starts, though he posted a sub-4.00 ERA last year with 178 1/3 innings pitched.
Strengths
- Non-surgical approach being attempted initially
- Manager expressed optimism about recovery plan
