Scouting Report: Clay Holmes
New York Mets | SP
Overall
Summary
Clay Holmes, 33-year-old right-hander for the New York Mets, suffered a fractured right fibula on May 16, 2026, after being struck by a 111 mph line drive off the bat of Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones. Holmes will not require surgery and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks of activity, followed by a spring training-like ramp-up period of approximately 4-6 weeks. Manager Carlos Mendoza expressed optimism about Holmes returning to the rotation in August. Prior to the injury, Holmes was performing exceptionally well in his second season with the Mets, leading the National League in ERA at 1.86 through eight starts with a 4-3 record, though advanced metrics suggest some regression may be coming.
Strengths
- Leading NL in ERA at 1.86 through 8 starts
- Exceptional consistency - 8 consecutive starts allowing 2 or fewer earned runs
