Scouting Report: Kendry Rojas

Minnesota Twins | SP

A

Overall

Summary

Kendry Rojas, 23-year-old Cuban left-handed pitcher acquired by the Twins from Toronto at the 2024 trade deadline, has made his MLB debut and earned his first career victory. The young prospect has shown exceptional strikeout ability (averaging 97.1 mph fastball with nasty swing-and-miss stuff) but continues to struggle with command and control issues. After dominating minor-league hitters with an 11.6 K/BB ratio in Single-A/Double-A, Rojas has had mixed results at Triple-A and in the majors. He made his first start against Houston (4 scoreless innings) and earned a win against Cleveland (3.1 innings, 5 K, 3 walks, 1 ER). Manager Derek Shelton notes he has "really good stuff" but needs to improve execution and acclimation to the big leagues. Rojas has joined a historic list of Cuban pitchers achieving early MLB success.

Strengths

  • Exceptional strikeout ability with 97.1 mph fastball
  • Nasty swing-and-miss arsenal (fastball, slider, changeup)
