Summary
Royce Lewis, the 2017 first overall pick, is struggling significantly following his return from a left knee sprain (IL stint April 11 - April 21). Since returning on April 21, he has posted a .122/.159/.195 slash line with a 1:15 BB:K ratio over 11 games (68 plate appearances), striking out at a 34.1% clip. For the season overall, Lewis is batting .169 with a .581 OPS in 89 plate appearances. Manager Derek Shelton has benched him for consecutive games to allow him to work on his swing and reset mentally. Lewis has expressed concern about job security and is dealing with significant pressure and uncertainty about his future with the team. The Twins are considering demoting him to Triple-A.
