Max Fried, 32-year-old Yankees ace on an 8-year, $218M contract, left his start against Baltimore after 3 innings and 61 pitches due to left elbow posterior soreness on May 13, 2026. MRI and CT scans revealed a bone bruise in the left elbow. The ulnar collateral ligament is intact and Tommy John surgery is not required. Fried has been placed on the 15-day IL. He leads MLB with 61.2 innings pitched and has shown declining command this season (walk rate up to 7.9% from 6.4% last year). Expected to miss 2-3 weeks pending further testing.
