Francisco Alvarez, 24-year-old Mets catcher, suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee during Tuesday's game against the Tigers in the sixth inning. He underwent surgery and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, potentially longer if damage is more extensive. Before injury, Alvarez was batting .241 with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs in 37 games (112 at-bats). Luis Torrens will take over as primary catcher with Hayden Senger as backup. This is the third meniscus tear for the Mets this season.
