Summary

Clay Holmes, 33-year-old right-handed pitcher for the New York Mets, suffered a fractured right fibula on May 16, 2026, after being struck by a 111 mph line drive off the bat of Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones. Holmes was placed on the 15-day injured list. Medical evaluation (MRI and X-ray) confirmed the fracture does not require surgery. Manager Carlos Mendoza expects Holmes to miss 6-8 weeks for healing, followed by an additional 4-6 weeks of spring training-style ramp-up, with a potential return in August. Prior to the injury, Holmes was performing exceptionally well in his second season with the Mets, leading the National League in ERA at 1.86 through eight starts with a 4-3 record and 1.01 WHIP. He had not allowed more than two earned runs in any outing this season.
