Los Angeles Angels | RP

Overall

day-to-day

Summary

Nick Sandlin, 29-year-old right-handed reliever, signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers after being waived by the Los Angeles Angels. Sandlin will report to Triple-A Toledo. He had a solid four-year run with Cleveland (2021-24, 3.27 ERA in 195.1 innings) and posted a strong 2.20 ERA with Toronto in 2025 before missing most of that season due to elbow injury. However, he struggled significantly with the Angels in 2026, posting an 11.42 ERA over 8.2 innings with poor command and a career-low 10.2% swinging strike rate. He underwent offseason elbow surgery and his fastball velocity has declined from 94 mph as a rookie to 91-92 mph currently. The Tigers are taking a low-risk flier on the experienced reliever to bolster their injury-depleted bullpen.

Strengths

  • Proven track record with Cleveland (3.27 ERA over 4 seasons)
  • Strong 2.20 ERA with Toronto in 2025 when healthy
