Chris Cortez, 22-year-old starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, was promoted to the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas on May 6, 2026. The No. 12 prospect in the Angels system was selected in the second round (45th overall) of the 2024 MLB Draft. In his first five starts with High-A Tri-City in 2026, Cortez posted a 4.67 ERA with 26 walks and 13 strikeouts over 17.1 innings. He spent 2025 with Tri-City, making 26 starts with a 4.28 ERA over 113.2 innings, striking out 114 batters. At Texas A&M (2022-24), he compiled a 19-7 record with a 4.67 ERA and 173 strikeouts over 150.1 innings, earning D1Baseball Third Team All-American honors as a junior in a multi-inning relief role with a 2.78 ERA.
