Scouting Report: Matt Strahm
Kansas City Royals | RP
Overall
Summary
Matt Strahm, Kansas City Royals relief pitcher, was placed on the 15-day injured list on May 16, 2026, with right knee inflammation. The injury occurred during his appearance on Friday, May 15th. Strahm was recently acquired from the Phillies in December 2025 for $4.5MM and came off a strong 2.30 ERA in 125 relief innings from 2024-25 with an All-Star nomination in 2024. However, his 2026 performance has been inconsistent with a 3.86 ERA and 23.9% strikeout rate, both worse than his previous season. His velocity is also down, with his four-seamer declining from 92.2 to 91.1 MPH. While Strahm has dealt with right knee inflammation previously (September 2020 and 2021), he missed only 12 days and two weeks respectively, suggesting a relatively quick recovery is expected.
