Scouting Report: Edwin Diaz
Houston Astros | 3B
Overall
Summary
Edwin Diaz, the Los Angeles Dodgers' three-time All-Star closer signed to a three-year, $69 million contract in December 2025, was transferred to the 60-day injured list on May 10, 2026, following arthroscopic elbow surgery on April 22 to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. Diaz is not expected to return until after the All-Star break (mid-July at earliest). Prior to injury, Diaz had a disastrous 2026 debut with a 10.50 ERA across seven appearances, including a particularly poor outing on April 20 against Colorado where he failed to record an out while allowing three runs. The injury has forced the Dodgers to shuffle their bullpen, and notably, the team's bullpen has actually performed better since losing Diaz, posting a 2.68 ERA since his last appearance on April 19 (best in MLB during that span). Additionally, reports have surfaced linking Diaz to alleged illegal cockfighting activities in Puerto Rico in February-March 2026.
Strengths
- Three-time All-Star credentials
