Houston Astros | SS

C

Overall

day-to-day

Summary

Cionel Pérez signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets after being designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals. The 30-year-old left-handed reliever struggled significantly in his 2026 stint with Washington, posting a 6.19 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 16 innings with 11 walks and only 9 strikeouts. Despite an impressive spring training performance (6 scoreless innings, 0.50 WHIP, 5 K's) and making the Opening Day roster, Pérez failed to maintain that level in regular season play. He will report to Triple-A Syracuse. This marks the second consecutive poor season for Pérez, who had a solid 2022-24 run with Baltimore (3.12 ERA, 20.2% K-rate, 10.6% BB-rate, 57 holds, 6 saves) before struggling last year as an Oriole.
