Summary

Cionel Pérez signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets after being designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals. The 30-year-old left-handed reliever struggled significantly in his 2026 stint with Washington, posting a 6.19 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 16 innings with 11 walks and only 9 strikeouts. Despite an impressive spring training performance (6 scoreless innings, 0.50 WHIP, 5 K's) and making the Opening Day roster, Pérez failed to maintain that level in regular season play.
