Summary
Sean Murphy, 31-year-old Braves catcher, suffered a fractured left middle finger on May 11, 2026, when Dodgers second baseman Hyeseong Kim's bat clipped his glove during a catcher's interference play. Murphy was placed on the 10-day IL retroactive to May 11, but manager Walt Weiss indicated he will miss at least 8 weeks (approximately 60 days) to recover from the fracture. This is a significant setback as Murphy had just returned from hip surgery recovery, making his 2026 season debut on May 4 after missing the first month and a half of the season. He appeared in only 4 games before the injury, going 1-for-14 with 6 strikeouts. The injury compounds ongoing durability concerns, as Murphy has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons, including a "diseased hip" that required surgery in September 2025.
