Scouting Report: James Jones
Colorado Rockies | RP
Overall
Summary
Jared Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher, is recovering from UCL surgery performed in May 2025 and is progressing through a minor league rehab assignment. The 24-year-old has completed three rehab starts (April 29 with Single-A Bradenton: 3 perfect innings, 5 K's; May 6 with Triple-A Indianapolis: 3 innings, 1 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 2 K's, 54 pitches; May 12 with Double-A Altoona: 4 scoreless innings, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 K's, 36/52 strikes). He has maintained elite velocity (100.1 mph peak, 98.8 mph average on fastball) and is building conditioning for his return. Jones has made clear he wants to return to the starting rotation, not the bullpen. He is currently on the 60-day IL and is expected to make his 2026 season debut in early June pending additional minor league starts.
Strengths
- Maintaining elite velocity post-surgery (100+ mph fastball)
