Ben Rice, Yankees first baseman, is sidelined with a left-hand contusion sustained on Sunday when he misjudged a pickoff throw from Max Fried. As of the reporting date, Rice has missed three consecutive games but the Yankees remain optimistic he will avoid an IL stint, with manager Aaron Boone indicating it appears to be day-to-day. Rice has not done much baseball activity to avoid aggravating the injury.
