Munetaka Murakami, 26-year-old Japanese rookie with the Chicago White Sox, has taken MLB by storm in his first six weeks of the 2026 season. Signed to a two-year, $34 million contract after being passed over by other teams, Murakami has proven doubters wrong with an exceptional power display. Through his first 45 games, he has 17 home runs (tied for 3rd-most in MLB history through first 45 games), a .369 on-base percentage, and is slashing .228/.363/.537 with 29 RBIs. He homered in his first three MLB games and had a five-game home run streak in mid-April. Murakami has also demonstrated improved plate discipline with 36 walks and 66 strikeouts.
