Scouting Report: Wander Arias
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Gabriel Arias, Cleveland Guardians shortstop, suffered a left hamstring strain on April 6, 2026, while running to second base after hitting a double. Initially given a 4-8 week recovery timeline, he experienced a setback in his rehabilitation in early May. Manager Stephen Vogt announced on May 8 that Arias' recovery "hit a little snag" and will take "a little bit longer" than originally expected, pushing his return to at least June or beyond. Before the injury, Arias was showing offensive improvement with 5 hits (including 1 double and 2 home runs) in his last 5 games with 4 RBI, posting a .200 BA with .433 SLG in 30 at-bats. His defensive strength at shortstop may also be affected by the lower-body injury.
Strengths
- Recently showing offensive improvement before injury with hot streak
- Contributed to Guardians' strong 4-3 opening road trip
