Scouting Report: Ryan Loutos
Chicago Cubs | RP
Overall
Summary
Joe Ryan, 29-year-old Minnesota Twins right-hander, exited his start on May 3rd after just 9 pitches due to elbow discomfort. MRI revealed no structural damage, which was the best-case scenario. Ryan has since resumed light throwing, completed a bullpen session on Wednesday with positive results (good velocity, effective offspeed stuff), and is on track to make his next scheduled start Saturday in Cleveland. Ryan described the situation as "dodging a bullet." He is a steady AL pitcher since 2021 with a 3.79 ERA, 27.5% strikeout rate, and excellent 5.7% walk rate, though he is somewhat homer-prone due to his fly-ball tendencies and lack of premium velocity.
Strengths
- No structural damage confirmed by MRI
- Successfully completed bullpen session with good velocity
