IL-10

Summary

Kerry Carpenter, 28-year-old Detroit Tigers outfielder, was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 10, 2026, with a left AC joint sprain suffered on May 9 when he collided with the right-field wall while pursuing Bobby Witt Jr.'s inside-the-park home run in Kansas City. Carpenter remained in the game after the collision and singled in his only plate appearance but was removed prior to the third inning. The Tigers selected infielder Gage Workman's contract from Triple-A Toledo to fill the roster spot, and transferred Justin Verlander to the 60-day IL to clear a 40-man roster spot. Carpenter is currently batting .216/.299/.451 with 6 home runs over 117 plate appearances, posting a 105 wRC+ fueled primarily by power. However, his strikeout rate has spiked to 34.2%, significantly above his career 24.6% rate. In his last 10 games, Carpenter has struggled with a .167 batting average and .481 OPS. This injury adds to Detroit's growing list of 15 players on the IL.

Strengths

  • Power production remains strong with 6 home runs
