Summary

Max Scherzer, 41-year-old three-time Cy Young Award winner for the Toronto Blue Jays, is dealing with a mysterious right forearm tendinitis that has proven difficult to diagnose and treat. Despite clean MRI results, Scherzer reports persistent forearm discomfort that is preventing him from advancing in his rehabilitation. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on April 27 (retroactive to April 25) with right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. His ankle has improved, but the forearm issue persists. Scherzer has struggled significantly on the field, posting a 1-3 record with a 9.24 ERA in five starts, allowing seven or more runs in two of his last three outings and failing to complete three innings in three separate starts. He is seeking additional medical opinions and has received a cortisone shot in his forearm, with another cortisone shot planned for his right thumb. The injury is particularly frustrating as clean imaging shows no structural damage, yet symptoms persist.

Strengths

  • Three-time Cy Young Award winner with Hall of Fame credentials
