José Caballero, Yankees shortstop, suffered a right middle finger fracture while sliding into base against the Brewers on May 10, 2026. He was placed on the 10-day IL on May 12. Caballero indicated he expects to return within 10 days and won't throw for 5-7 days but can field. Manager Aaron Boone promised him the starting shortstop role upon return. Anthony Volpe was recalled as the corresponding move.
