Scouting Report: Jean Perez
Chicago Cubs | 2B
Overall
Summary
Cionel Pérez, a 29-year-old left-handed reliever, signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets after being designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals. Pérez opened the 2026 season with the Nationals on their Opening Day roster after an impressive spring training (6 scoreless innings, 0.50 WHIP, 5 K). However, his regular season performance deteriorated significantly, posting a 6.19 ERA with 11 walks and only 9 strikeouts over 16 innings. He allowed runs in three consecutive appearances after his debut and struggled throughout his five-week stint before being DFA'd. Pérez will report to Triple-A Syracuse to attempt a comeback. He had a solid 2022-24 run with Baltimore (3.12 ERA, 20.2% K-rate, 10.6% BB-rate, 57 holds, 6 saves) but struggled last year as an Oriole (20 runs in 21.2 innings).
