Summary

Yimi García, a 35-year-old right-handed reliever for the Toronto Blue Jays, is beginning his rehab assignment after undergoing elbow surgery in September 2025 to clean up scar tissue. He missed the end of the 2025 season due to an ankle sprain and right elbow discomfort. García made his first rehab appearance on May 8, 2026, recording two outs while allowing one earned run on two hits in the Florida Complex League. He has not pitched since July 2, 2025. The Blue Jays' bullpen has struggled this season (4.28 ERA, 18th in MLB), and García is expected to provide a boost when healthy. He may not be available until late May or early June as he works through a full 30-day rehab window to regain form and shake off rust. Over his 11 MLB seasons, García has maintained a 3.61 ERA and a 14.4% strikeout-to-walk ratio, making him a reliable arm when healthy.

Strengths

  • 11 seasons of MLB experience with 3.61 career ERA
  • Strong strikeout-to-walk ratio of 14.4% historically
